Samsung is considering expanding its QD-OLED panel capacity in order to win panel orders from Apple Display, according to a senior executive at a market research firm.
Samsung is reportedly planning to invest in the production of QD-OLED panels at the new A5 plant. The factory will use 8.6-generation substrates to produce panels, with a focus on 27-inch displays, apparently with Apple as the main target.
QD-OLED is a combination of quantum dots (QD) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), with a blue OLED panel at the bottom as a backlight and display.
The new design and construction allow QD-OLED screens to retain color better than LCD TVS and regular OLED screens, and reduce visual discomfort.
These features make Samsung have full confidence in QD-OLED technology.
