On February 7, according to the South Korean media ETNews, Samsung Display and LG Display, two top screen suppliers, have begun to prepare for the production of OLED screens, which will be equipped on Apple's next generation iPad Pro. This screen is called "hybrid" panel in the report, which integrates the advantages of flexible and rigid OLED technology.
According to the report, Apple has ordered four OLED screens of different sizes from panel manufacturers Samsung Display and LG Display, including two iPad Pro and two MacBook Pro.
According to the report, the four OLED screens ordered by Apple are 10.86 inches, 12.9 inches, 14 inches and 16 inches, respectively. The first two are used for the 11 inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro, and the last two are used for the 14 inch and 16 inch MacBook Pro.
Although the report did not mention the order status of the two major panel manufacturers, Samsung Display and LG Display, it was clearly mentioned in the report that they were preparing to produce the OLED screen for Apple's first iPad on a large scale, which means that the two manufacturers may have obtained the OLED screen order for iPad Pro.
As foreign media reported that the iPad will start to use OLED screens next year, the 10.86-inch and 12.9-inch OLED screens will be available next year. MacBook Pro will be adopted in 2026, and the two manufacturers will have more time to prepare.
According to Ross Young, CEO of DSCC, Apple plans to launch the new 13-inch MacBook Air, 11.1-inch iPad Pro and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED screens in 2024.
In addition, Apple supply chain analyst Guo Mingyu also predicted that the first MacBook equipped with OLED display will be launched next year.
Young previously said that the new MacBook Air and iPad Pro models will use a "two stack" OLED display with two red, green and blue emission layers, which can improve the brightness of the screen. He also said that all devices will support ProMotion with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.
At the same time, Apple Watch Ultra is expected to switch to microLED display in 2024, while other Apple products will follow up in a few years. MicroLED will be Apple's next display technology after OLED, providing higher contrast, higher brightness and lower power consumption.
