On December 30th, BOE Technology Group successfully lit up the first product from China’s first 8.6-generation AMOLED production line, five months ahead of the original schedule. Following the early capping of the production line, this marks another major milestone in the project’s construction. It signifies that BOE has taken the lead in achieving critical breakthroughs in mid-size OLED technology R&D, process debugging, and mass production preparation, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent volume production and delivery of products. Meanwhile, it also means the project has pioneered the transition from the construction phase to the operation phase.
Invested and constructed by BOE, China’s first 8.6-generation AMOLED production line has a total investment of RMB 63 billion, making it the single largest industrial project with the highest investment volume in Sichuan Province to date. Designed with a production capacity of 32,000 glass substrates per month (measuring 2290mm × 2620mm), the line focuses on cutting-edge industry technologies and the high-end product demands of top international customers. Its core output consists of high-end touch-controlled OLED displays for smart terminals such as laptops and tablet computers.
The production line adopts the FMM (Fine Metal Mask) production process, which is compatible with both flexible OLED and Hybrid OLED. Compared with other technical routes, it boasts distinct advantages in yield rate, production efficiency, finished product quality, and luminous efficiency. By integrating LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) backplane technology and Tandem stacked light-emitting device fabrication process, the OLED panels produced by this line achieve lower power consumption and longer service life, driving the iterative upgrade of downstream laptop and tablet products.

Since its groundbreaking in 2024, BOE’s 8.6-generation AMOLED production line has continued to set new records. In May 2025, the first batch of equipment was moved in four months ahead of schedule, breaking the global record for the construction of high-generation display production lines. Seven months later, the first product was successfully lit up five months ahead of schedule, marking another phased victory. This critical step paves the way for the line to enter mass production and official operation in 2026.
