According to Korean media TheElec reports, SONY is providing OLEDoS (silica-based OLED) panels for Apple's new mixed reality device Vision Pro, with a capacity cap of 900,000 per year.

According to sources, SONY's production capacity means that Apple will only ship a few hundred thousand Vision Pro units next year at most. SONY can supply up to 100,000 to 200,000 units of OLEDoS per quarter. Apple had asked SONY to expand production at OLEDoS, but was rebuffed.

While there are other OLEDoS manufacturers, Apple is unlikely to use any other supplier other than SONY at this time. Therefore, for Apple to expand Vision Pro shipments, it will need to expand more OLEDoS suppliers in the future.

Vision Pro is a new augmented reality platform, a revolutionary new product that will change the way we communicate, collaborate, work and play. But market research firm TrendForce expects the Vision Pro to ship only about 200,000 units next year.
