SamMobile reports that Samsung is working on MicroLED panels for smartwatches. Samsung's Galaxy Watch series of smartwatches currently use OLED screens, but will move to MicroLED screens in the future.

Samsung is also an OLED panel supplier for the Apple Watch. The latest news is that Apple plans to use MicroLED panels in the Apple Watch, so Samsung developed MicroLED panels in order to use its own watch, but also in hopes of supplying Apple.

Micro LED display technology refers to a display technology in which a self-luminous micron-sized LED is a light-emitting pixel unit and assembled on a driver panel to form a high-density LED array.

Due to the characteristics of small size, high integration and self-lighting, Micro LED chips have greater advantages in brightness, resolution, contrast, energy consumption, service life, response speed and thermal stability compared with LCD and OLED in display.

More importantly, MicroLED panels can theoretically be assembled at will and you can get MicroLED displays of any size, so it is not only the savior of the monitor and TV market, but also the mobile phone industry and wearable devices.

The battery life of mobile phones has always been limited by the power consumption of the display, but MicroLED panels consume only 50% of the power of similar OLED panels, and can provide even higher brightness.

If Samsung can make a breakthrough in MicroLED mass production technology, it is likely to see a period of rapid growth.
