The uncertainty brought about by the new tariff policies of the United States on display application products such as televisions, personal computers, and smartphones, coupled with a decrease in panel orders from brand manufacturers and contract manufacturers, is prompting panel manufacturers to lower their capacity utilization rates. Omdia predicts that the utilization rate will drop below 80% in April 2025 and further decline to 76% in May 2025.

Since the fourth quarter of 2024, panel manufacturers have maintained a high capacity utilization rate of 81% -83%, partly due to China's "trade in" subsidy policy driving demand for LCD TV panels. Chinese TV manufacturers have accelerated production and shipment to the US market to reduce tariff risks, which has boosted demand in early 2025, especially for LCD TV panels of 75 inches and larger sizes.

However, concerns about the potential implementation of new tariffs by the United States starting from April, coupled with uncertainty in demand for display panels, have led personal computer and television manufacturers to reduce panel inventory purchases. Some manufacturers have even reduced their panel orders for the second quarter of 2025. According to Omdia's February 2025 forecast report, it was originally expected that the capacity utilization rate would remain at 82% in April and drop to 78% in May. But with some TFT LCD manufacturers in China planning to extend the May Day holiday, the utilization rate in May may further decline to around 75%.
