Apple Inc. (AAPL) is reportedly asking Chinese suppliers to help fix screen problems with its mixed-reality (MR) headset, the Vision Pro.

Citing unnamed sources, The Information reported on Monday that Apple is testing advanced screens made by two Chinese suppliers that could be used in future versions of the Vision Pro. The two suppliers are BOE and SeeYA Technology, and the Vision Pro, which is scheduled to hit the market in 2024, uses a panel technology called Micro-OLED, which can display very clear images. However, Micro-OLED technology is expensive and difficult to produce. According to foreign media reports, the current panel used by the Vision Pro is supplied by Sony, but Sony's annual output of Micro-OLED is less than 1 million pieces, and each Vision Pro helmet needs two Micro-OLED screens.

The report pointed out that if BOE and SeeYA's panel can meet Apple's requirements, it may replace Sony as Apple's panel partner to help lower the price of Vision Pro.

The report quoted sources as saying that Apple is evaluating whether future models of the Vision Pro and a less expensive version (internally code-named "N109") can use BOE and Horizon panels.

Apple announced the Vision Pro at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, 2023, at a whopping $3,499. Apple's iPhone, iPad and Macbook have already begun to use Jingdong board. Seya is a relatively new company, for which China has invested a lot of money, with the goal of being able to produce Micro-OLED panels on its own.
