On February 2, Tianma Microelectronics announced the launch of the vehicle display backlight solution based on AM Mini-LED technology.
Mini-LED backlight technology is divided into two mainstream technologies: AM Mini-LED and PM Mini-LED. AM refers to Active matrix, that is, Active matrix drive. PM refers to passive matrix drive, which is a mature Mini-LED backlight technology solution on the market at present.
Compared with PM, AM drive mode has more advantages in the fineness, contrast, power consumption and other aspects of image quality display, and AM mode can control the continuous illumination of light source to achieve no screen flash and more eye protection. Due to the increasing market demand for high-end display products with high partition, better picture quality and precise control advantages, AM Mini-LED backlight technology has entered a rapid development stage.

Tianma has previously laid out the application of Mini-LED backlight technology in vehicle, and provided diversified Mini-LED backlight display solutions to domestic and overseas vehicle customers. Among them, the existing display solutions have realized the commercial application of vehicular key customers and entered the mass production stage. At the same time, Tianma announced the layout of on-board AM Mini-LED backlight technology, continued to optimize existing on-board screen display solutions, and actively promoted project cooperation with customers.

It is understood that the AM Mini-LED backlight technology can enable each Mini-LED pixel to continuously and independently drive the light to help realize the independent control of each light source, which means that more accurate and delicate local dimming can be carried out. That is to say, in the same size, compared with the traditional LCD screen, the LCD screen with AM Mini-LED backlight technology has more advantages in brightness, contrast and image fineness, which are important display parameters, and has more excellent display performance.
AM Mini-LED technology can also achieve better display effect with high brightness and high contrast, more delicate display quality, and effectively reduce screen flicker. At the beginning of the year, Tianma displayed 12.3-inch AM Mini-LED vehicle-mounted display screen at CES 2023, with its peak brightness of 1500nits and dynamic contrast of more than 1000000:1. At the same time, no flashing can effectively reduce the driver's eye fatigue and provide a safer driving environment.
