LG Innotek has applied for a patent to achieve luminous efficiency by uniformly depositing OLED luminous materials, while minimizing stains and light interference on OLED panels, etnews reported.

LG Innotek's patent is designed to change the structure of the FMM (Fine Metal Mask), which allows OLED organic materials to be deposited precisely in the components of the display pixels. It requires drilling tens of millions of holes with diameters of 20 to 30 microns (FMS). The FMM industry is focusing on drilling precise organic permeable holes.

LG Innotek found that this method will reduce the efficiency of organic material deposition, mainly because the FMM thickness is relatively thin, prone to distortion, resulting in the formation of stains on the OLED panel or light interference caused by "ripples", thus affecting the screen appearance. Based on this, LG Innotek proposed to improve the uniformity by changing the structure of the FMM, through different sizes of holes cross to form a hole, minimize the deviation between adjacent holes, can reduce the distortion of the FMM, is expected to extend the service life of OLED.
