It is predicted that the inventory level of panels for smartphones will return to normal this year. The global economic slowdown and stagnant demand have led to an inventory buildup, but the situation will improve as demand picks up in the second half of the year, analysts say.

On Feb. 22, Stone Partners forecast that smartphone panel demand will reach 1.2418 billion this year, up slightly from a year earlier.

"With the end of the rate hike cycle in the second half of this year, inventories are expected to fall to normal levels," said a Stone Partners official. If various unfavorable factors are resolved, there will be demand for economic recovery next year.

In terms of products, flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels are expected to increase. Stone Partners forecasts that shipments will increase by more than 70 million units from the previous year due to demand for replacement rigid panels.

Flexible OLED panels are expected to grow this year, bucking the trend, with a large supply of low-cost flexible OLED panels.

Shipments of foldable OLED panels are expected to increase by 9.5 million units due to the increase in low-cost panels from China. Shipments of OLED panels for smartphones are expected to reach 648 million this year.

China's leap forward in the OLED market was also expected. "Chinese OLED panel companies are actively providing flexible OLEDs priced at around 20 dollars to Chinese smartphone companies, and their market share is rapidly increasing," Stone Partners said.
