Apple has ordered OLED panels from LG Display and Samsung for its next iPad Pro model, Business Korea reported on Feb 23. The tablet devices are widely expected to hit the market in 2024.

According to the report, Apple placed orders with the display companies to develop 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch OLED panels. The Korean display maker plans to produce OLED panels for the iPad on its current sixth generation (1500mmx1850mm) production line.

Apple has yet to finalize orders for OLED displays for the iPad Pro, but may split the order equally between the two South Korean factories, according to South Korea's Economic Daily.

Display analyst Ross Young said Apple is developing 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pro models that will launch in the first quarter of 2024.

Previous reports have suggested that Apple plans to offer larger 11.1-inch and 13-inch screen sizes for OLED iPad Pro models, and may shrink the bezels rather than changing the device size overall.

According to the official website of Apple, at present, Apple is selling one 12.9inch MiniLED iPad Pro and one 11inch iPad Pro equipped with traditional LCD display. The MiniLED is reserved for higher-end iPad Pro models. With the 2024 iPad Pro update, Apple could restore feature parity between the two iPad Pro models.

Apple also plans to introduce new MacBook models with OLED displays. Both reports today indicate that the new MacBook Pro 14 - and 16-inch models will be available in 2026. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously claimed that a new MacBook Pro with an OLED display will be available in 2025, and that it could be the first Mac with a touchscreen.

In addition, Apple is preparing to launch a 13-inch MacBook Air with an OLED display as early as next year, according to Ross Young, when the OLED iPad Pro models are expected to be available. Tianfeng International analyst Mingqi Guo also expected Apple's first MacBook with OLED display to be launched next year, but did not specify the model or size.
