E Ink announced the cooperation with Sharp Display Technology SDTC to jointly develop the IGZO backboard of the new generation of e-paper, and launched E Ink Gallery 3 panel technology, which is used in modules including e-book readers, e-paper notebooks and so on. This technology is the result of a two-year collaboration on Oxide TFT electronic paper displays and the first market release of this technology. In the future, both parties will aim to apply IGZO technology to large size electronic paper Kanban, which can be used in various fields, including retail and transportation Kanban.

Metacorp has been developing Oxide TFT for more than 10 years, while Sharp Display was the first to mass produce Oxide TFT for display in 2012. Oxide TFT provides high mobility (the ease with which electrons move around a particular material) and a low current. This allows small transistors to supply the same current. This technology can be used in displays to achieve high conversion speeds and low power consumption.
The partnership combines PTEC's technological leadership in e-paper with Sharp Display's vision of developing TFT technology for Oxide and panel applications. It aims to reduce the energy consumption of display technology and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by replacing paper books with more comfortable color e-readers. It is estimated that if 130 million e-readers download 10 books a year, they can reduce carbon emissions by 100,000 times compared to paper.
