On November 22, Applied Materials announced the launch of MAX OLED solutions. The solution supports the manufacturing of OLED displays on larger glass panels and includes the pixel deposition and packaging process equipment required for the mass production of OLED panels on a high generation line scale.
According to Applied Materials, the MAX OLED solution makes it easy to expand the size of OLED manufacturing from the 6th generation glass substrate to the 8th generation glass substrate, which is about twice the size of the former, and can be expanded to a larger size glass substrate. MAX OLED also uses a new OLED material deposition method, which can improve pixel brightness and resolution, reduce display energy consumption, and extend display life.
Applied Materials says the MAX OLED solution is a breakthrough technology. In this scheme, each OLED pixel is manufactured and packaged using a specially designed mask-free selective deposition method, which enables the rapid and accurate production of high-purity OLED pixels. The solution can increase the brightness and resolution of the OLED display by 3 times and 2.5 times, respectively, to about 2000 pixels per square inch; It can also reduce the power consumption of the display by more than 30% and extend the life of the display by up to five times.
The MAX solution is not a single device, but rather integrates several key manufacturing modules into a single high-vacuum system to protect the fine OLED material from the environment and reduce particulate matter that affects yield. The MAX OLED manufacturing system integrates display glass handling, multiple OLED deposition steps, and OLED packaging.

Applied Materials said that MAX OLED solutions can serve OLED production lines using 8th generation and larger glass substrates, boosting the expansion of OLED terminals from smartphones to tablets, PCS and even TV displays. The solution's core technologies have been proven on the 10.5 generation LCD panel production line.
In addition, the MAX OLED solution can reduce the energy consumption of OLED display manufacturers, greatly reduce the amount of OLED material used, and eliminate the use of mask cleaning chemicals, thus reducing the environmental impact of display manufacturing.
It is reported that Applied Materials has provided the MAX OLED solution for Samsung Display. The company will introduce an Alpha system to evaluate the new technology.
