The display industry in Korea is on edge as China's display industry is growing faster than expected, especially in the case of small and medium-sized organic light-emitting diodes (OLeds). According to Korean media forecasts, by 2027, China's global OLED panel market share will increase to half, South Korea's OLED panel dominance of the sense of crisis is rising.

According to the Korea Display Industry Association on April 16, based on production capacity, the global display market share of Chinese companies is expected to increase from 65% in 2022 to about 72% in 2027. It is predicted that by 2027, the share of LCD panels and OLED panels made in China will reach 74% and 49%, respectively.

In terms of small and medium-sized OLED panels used in smartphones, Chinese companies have become a reality. Previously, it took 10 years for Chinese companies to achieve 20% of the global market share in the LCD market, and only eight years for small and medium-sized OLED market share to reach 20%.

The number of smartphone manufacturers using Samsung's Display OLED display is said to have dropped from more than 20 in 2022 to a single digit last year. According to relevant information, most Chinese smartphone manufacturers do not use Samsung display panels, but use BOE, TCL Huaxing, Vicinot and other Chinese OLED panels. As a result, Samsung Display's OLED share in the fourth quarter of last year fell 21% from the same period last year to 375.

In this regard, according to South Korean industry sources, China's OLED display industry investment is strong, the pursuit speed is faster than expected, and the gap between China and South Korea OLED technology has been significantly shortened.
