AUO Innolux may convert its LCD plant to Micro LED production

AUO recently announced that it has completed the development of a wearable Micro LED display, and is now commercializing the 1.39-inch circular smartwatch display, which is expected to be mass-produced in the second half of 2023.

AUO later announced plans to convert its LCD 5A plant in Taiwan's Longtan district into a Micro LED production line. The new production line will start producing Micro leds in 2025 or 2026, targeting wearable displays, car displays, televisions and signage displays.

In terms of Micro LED, Innolux also said that it is working with its customers to co-develop Micro LED displays. The company has not announced any commercialization plans, but is considering converting one of its 5.5-generation LCD plants to Micro LED panel production.

A year ago, Innolux demonstrated a prototype of a 12.3" microLED splicing seamless display module based on the LTPS backplane. The display achieves 700 nits of brightness and 480x180 (40 PPI) resolution.
